FAQs

  • Mixing is a process that usually occurs after the recording process. The goal of mixing is to take the raw recorded track and essentially make it even better! By better we mean getting your song to sound it’s best on every speaker in the world! Your song should sound amazing wether its played on a phone, a UE boom, in your car or in a club. We achieve this in the mixing stage by taking all the individual elements we recorded such as vocals, drums, bass, gtr etc and use gain staging, optimising the levels off each different instrument relative to each other, EQ, compression, saturation and ambience effects in an attempt to represent the track in its most powerful and honest form.

  • Mastering is the stage after mixing. Once all the individual tracks have been optimised and mixed together in the mixing stage to make a single finished song the mastering stage begins. The goal of mastering is to be a final stage before the release of the song(s) aimed at optimising the songs tone, impact and volume. The mastering engineer works on just the single WAV file of the entire song, while the mix engineer works on the relationship between the individual instruments in the song.

Mastering usually costs between $50 and $200 per song in Australia.

Mastering is common practice the world over in the process of a song being released. It is not necessarily essential for your project to be mastered, but what could be considered essential is for the finished product of your music to be on par with your vision, expectations and also competitively loud and well produced compared to other songs in the industry. Mastering is the last stage of the music production process that ensures your song is at its best and ready for release.
