At Tallowoood Recording Studio we believe music does a lot of good in this crazy world. We strive to support artists from all walks of life to bring their music into the world. We believe this requires a balance between inclusivity, accessibility, support, technical ability, environment and communication. With ten years experience, a beautiful natural setting and a focus on respectful and compassionate communication we believe we achieve this balance. About.
Tallowood is a music recording, producing, writing and mixing studio located on Jinibara coutry in Mount Glorious, Queensland, Australia, 45 minutes outside Brisbane (Meanjin). The studio is owned and run by Michael Josephson who has been producing, engineering and mixing in the region for over ten years. In his early years Michael operated within a community of shipping container studios with partners The Buttery Music School in Yeronga, Brisbane.
In 2021, after three years of construction, the new studio was completed. Named ‘Tallowood’ for the tree the studio was made from that was felled and milled on site, the studio combines the comfort and connection of a small boutique studio with the hard hitting musical results of a large professional facility.
Whether you’re a developing artist looking to record their songs for the first time or a seasoned professional looking for a creative and productive place to get away from the hustle and bustle and make music, Tallowood is here for you.

What we do
Recording
If you’re looking for a beautiful, professional recording studio in nature near (Meanjin) Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) then Tallowood Studio is for you. Located 15 minutes from Samford on the North side of Brisbane, Tallowood Studio offers a large open live room experience great for recording all instruments including drums, guitars, strings, brass and more. Our favourite way of recording is recording full bands live! Check out the 2022 EP by Julian CK ‘Out of the City’ that was recorded completely live at the studio. Now with our new isolated live room with connecting studio window recording live is even easier and sounds amazing. Keep your line of sight with your band through the window while maintaining isolation that allows for flexibility and control of your sound. With our selection of boutique beautiful recording gear we are in love with the smooth sounds we can get at the studio. Our centrepiece recording chain being our Vintage 1971 Neumann U87 running into our AMS Series 500 Neve 1073LB Pre-amp into a Neve 1073LBEQ and the Neve 2264ALB Compressor.

Producing
We are passionate about producing with artists and strive to be flexible with our approach to suit what is best for the project and each song. Producing is an exciting and challenging process and we are happy to be involved in whatever way works best. Whether we are taking the producing reins fully so you can focus on your performance or we work together at producing the song. You can even bring your own producer along and our in-house engineer can setup and operate the computer while you concentrate on performance and tone. At Tallowood Studio we know that producing is a magical, creative process that can truly elevate a song to its greatest potential. We want to support you to achieve your vision and believe the lush natural forest and wildlife around Mount Glorious provide the perfect inspiring backdrop. We have found that just being able to step outside and take a walk in the trees can be the perfect refreshment to your creative energy that helps bring the best out of a song.
Mixing
Mixing is one of our favourite aspects of musical creation and at Tallowood we take pride in the care we take on every mix. Mixing has the power to change the way a song comes across dramatically. Mixing can totally change a songs emotional impact or just be a light sprinkle of shine on the raw recordings. We are always open to attended mixing sessions or we can mix your track and correspond online. At Tallowood we have a the unique offer of unlimited revisions when we mix your song. This allows us to work together to get your artistic vision just right.
Rehearsals
Tallowood Studio is also available as a rehearsal space. We frequently rent the space to bands and musicians who want a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane City to rehearse for an upcoming gig. Alternatively you can come up to the mountain for a few hours for weekly rehearsals in a comfortable air conditioned space with PA, drumkit, microphones, guitar amps and bass amp provided. Tallowood is less than an hour from Brisbane city and even closer if you live on the North side of Brisbane. (Queensland, Australia)
Dry Hire
Tallowood Studio is also available for dry hire, meaning you can have the place to yourself to make music! Bring your band, your producer and all the things that help you create a great vibe. Conveniently located near Brisbane City, Tallowood Studio is the perfect music studio for you and your band to escape the distractions of the city and focus on being creative. For an additional cost you can hire all of Tallowood’s beautiful recording gear to use for your stay. Enquire about our dry hire plus opportunity!
